Summer flower nursery van Aert Flowers BV was established in 1979 as Van Aert-Herijgers Nursery. Initially, Peter en Ida van Aert were primarily growers of outdoor vegetables. In 1992 the company switched completely to summer flowers. At that time the company was 5 ha. in size. After son Corné joined the partnership that increased to 12 ha. From 2013, the company continued under the leadership of Corné with the name Aert Flowers BV. Van Aert Flowers BV cultivates 20 hectares and supplies more than 7 million flowers annually to the Dutch flower auctions. 12 different crops are grown in a multitude of Cultivars. By bringing forward or delaying harvesting they try to extend the supply period as much as possible, with attention to consistent quality. A wide range of crops are grown, namely Astilbe, Alchemilla, Allium, Peony, Lysimachia, Chelone, Polygonatum, Dicentra, and Brassica. Various Cultivars are produced from all these main species. Van Aert Flowers BV has the most modern flower processing techniques for accurate sorting.
Through the Summerflowers initiative, Van Aert Flowers BV hopes to bring their products more to the attention of the florist and also to ensure that the trade has a good insight into what is on offer and use it in their purchasing strategy. By being reliable in terms of quality and information, we can help the summer flowers to claim the place they rightly deserve in the market.
