Gentian nursery Egberts has two locations: Mijdrecht and De Kwakel. In Mijdrecht the flowers are grown in a screening installation, while in De Kwakel growing take place both in a screening installation and in the greenhouse. In De Kwakel planting on of young plantlets is also done. By focusing on a longer supply time, Egberts hopes to maintain his position of market leader.
Gentian growing is anything but easy. This is partly why we decided to specialise in growing. Initially Gentian was only grown outside, but the urge to supply better quality, brought growing into the screening installation. After we stopped growing Alstroemeria in the greenhouse, the Gentian was also brought inside. Right now, Gentian is grown in the greenhouse for off-season production. Cultivation takes place in the greenhouse before outdoor production starts. Due to the special preparation of the plants, it is now possible to extend the season by a few months until the end of November. To achieve this, Egberts only works with selections they grow themselves, thus ensuring the best quality can be delivered at any time of the year.
In addition to Gentian, Hippeastrum is grown at the nursery in the winter.
